St Catherine’s Hospice Wishing Well unveiled at Brunswick Shopping Centre

A group of Scarborough students have helped ensure that wishes can come true for Saint Catherine’s by building a special wishing well for the Brunswick Shopping Centre.

The hand-made wishing well was built from scratch by students at Scarborough Construction Skills Village in Middle Deepdale, Eastfield, who are aged from 16 to 35.

It will be installed in the Brunswick Centre so customers can leave a donation towards patient care.

Kacie Peirson, operations coordinator at the Skills Village, said: “Everybody has been so passionate about getting involved in this project for Saint Catherine’s.

“All partners, learners and staff pulled together as a team and used their skills and creative ideas to support a great cause.”

Sue Anderson-Brown, Brunswick Shopping centre manager, said: “Here at Brunswick we take our role at the heart of the community very seriously. We are very excited to unveil and give Saint Catherine’s fundraising wishing well a permanent home within the shopping centre.

“We are sure that our shoppers will be inspired to give generously which will help Saint Catherine’s continue to deliver the wonderful care and support it provides to the terminally ill and their families across our community.”

The project came about thanks to partnership working between Scarborough Construction Skills Village, the Brunswick Shopping Centre and Saint Catherine’s, supported by West BS, Flixton Sawmill, Signs Express, Dunelm and Calverts Carpets who all kindly donated materials.

More than 20 students were involved in the build, which was overseen by joinery trainer and assessor John Revill.

Lisa Craven, hospice fundraiser, said: “This has been a fantastic project in support of Saint Catherine’s and we are so grateful for everyone’s wonderful contributions. The wishing well looks brilliant and is the perfect way for people to make a donation towards patient care.”
